Sr.Honda Hot day for Hunter Montgomery. Hot Hunter had fast time and took first. Clean Sweep, Sweet!
Tate Gregory qualified fifth and finished third.
Hvy Honda Speaking of hot...Kyle Thompson raised the bar by setting the track record-6.902
Kyle kept the excitement going by taking first! Go San Antonio!
LT.160 Dusting off retirement, Michael Hernandez, qualified forth then true to fashion wins the main!
Kyle Thompson qualified second. He received a call and did not have enough laps to recover ending up in sixth.

Question: Guess who holds the track record in Austin for five divisions, Sr.Novice,Hvy Honda,Hvy 160,World Formula, and Half ?

Answer: San Antonio's very own Kyle Thompson! Not only are you an awesome driver but you are a wonderful roll model for our younger drivers.
Thanks to Austin for a nicely run Monza weekend!

Congratulations to Berklee Jimenez! You made LSQMA proud!

Berklee raced October 4th at the Roadrunner QMA Balloon Classic. Over 600 hot air balloons went off at the mass ascension. It was amazing!
Berklee raced well, with fast time in Junior Honda, and second place in the heat race.
She also had fast time and a new track record in Junior Stock, won the heat and finished third in the main.
Her track record surprised everyone. RRQMA re-surfaced the track with asphalt before the 2008 season. The track records were shattered at their Memorial day race this year. However, the faster heavier cars, AA, and B's pulled up the asphalt at that race. They re-surfaced the corners with concrete this summer, but, the new corners are slick and don't take rubber. Everyone is two-tenths off the track records now in Albuquerque. We were very excited with her new track record!

Texas Shootout # 5 San Antonio/August 2ND:
Winning is not the result of one person's effort.

A bit of History
More about LSQMA

Lone Star Quarter Midgets Association (LSQMA) has been in existence for 47 years. Kids ages 5-16 compete against each other in quarter scale midgets, but don’t let the size fool you, these little hot rods can reach speeds up to 45 mph. These cars are true race cars in that they have full suspensions which can be adjusted for track conditions and type of track.

The racing is extremely safe and there has never been a serious injury in the association’s history. These youngsters race in full safety gear that has to be sanctioned by the Quarter Midgets of America Club. The kids wear full face helmets, as well as fire resistant race suits and gloves. In addition, they have arm and neck restraints, and other safety harnesses on the car.

The kids of LSQMA race according to age category and engine type. Typically the racers race 10-15 events in conjunction with the Austin track and accumulate points for club championships as well as regional championships. San Antonio and Austin are the only two Texas cities with tracks so many families drive from as far away as Dallas, Houston, and Port Lavaca on a regular basis in order to compete.

Even though the kids are fierce competitors on the track they put away their feelings with their race gloves as soon as they climb out of their cars. These kids are all great friends and look forward to the weekend so they can hang out with each other and share their love of racing. The environment is family oriented and it isn’t unusual to see all family members working in some capacity to get the cars ready to race on Saturday mornings.

This sport is a great alternative for those kids more interested in cars and speed than they are in baseball, soccer, or basketball. Quarter Midget racing can be compared to little league in baseball in that many Quarter Midget racers have gone onto race in NASCAR, IRL, and World of Outlaws. If you are interested in getting your child involved in the sport contact the club president, John Jimenez, at 210-363-4564 or by e-mail at johnjimenez87@yahoo.com.
